If you are 15 ½ years or older, you are eligible to take a 4-hour intensive driver’s education course to meet Colorado state drivers education requirements. For busy teens, this accelerated course option helps streamline your path to obtaining your driver’s permit.

Online Driver’s Education
Our online drivers education programs bring DriveSafe’s expertise plus the convenience and flexibility of online learning. Online driving classes are an excellent way to prepare for your permit test and obtain your Colorado driving permit.
DriveSafe’s online drivers ed uses e-learning best practices to help ensure students are engaged with the content and learn the rules of the road and safe driving habits.
The online course fulfills Colorado’s requirements for 30 hours of drivers ed classes in a self-paced, web-based learning platform. The 30-Hour Program is a highly interactive and in-depth curriculum designed by drivers education professionals and approved by the State of Colorado. It covers numerous concepts critical to becoming a safe driver including: driving in adverse conditions; the impact of alcohol on driving; understanding the zone of control; space cushion management, traffic laws and regulations and much more. The written permit test is included and can be taken at any DriveSafe center in the Denver Metro area. You can use any computer, tablet or even your phone in Windows, Apple or Android environments.
Additionally, many students include behind-the-wheel training lessons as part of their online driver education packages.
HOW DO I PASS MY COLORADO PERMIT TEST?
Once you’ve completed your educational requirements, study the Colorado Driver’s Handbook.
You can also take DriveSafe’s Unlimited Practice Permit Test to sharpen your knowledge, and quiz yourself on over 200 questions that are similar to what will appear on the actual permit test. With sufficient studying, and scoring at least 80% accuracy, you will pass your Colorado Permit Test.
HOW DO I GET A COLORADO INSTRUCTION PERMIT?
Meet Your Age Groups’ Education Requirement
Teens can start their driver’s education as early a 14 ½
You’ll need to complete a 30-hour driver education course. Then, you must be at least 14 years and 11 months old to be eligible to take your permit test. Upon successfully passing you can be issued your instruction permit by the time you turn 15.
If you're between 15 and 15 1/2 years old
You’ll need to complete a 30-hour driver education course before taking the written test to receive your permit.
If you’re between 15 1/2 and 16 years old
You can either take a 30-hour driver education course, OR you are eligible to take a 4-hour expanded driver awareness program before taking your permit test.
Once you’ve been issued your permit, it will be valid for 3 years, but you’ll need to hold it for 1 full year or until your 18th birthday before you can take your driver license test.
